To any 'Old Laindonites.' I intend to be at the Manor Mission about 11am on Friday 11th July 2008. I attended the Mission on a regular basis between 1933 and 1938 and was a member of the 3rd Laindon Boy Scout troop. I also played in the Scout band from the time of its formation in 1934 and left in 1938.I was known as Henry and also answered to Harry in those far off days. Heres' hoping...

I was a regular attender and member of the 3rd Laindon group of Boy Scouts at the Manor Mission between 1932 and 1938. The minister in those days was Mr Tourle who conducted most christian services held in the Manor Mission. I am so glad that it continues to exist. Shall try to make a visit in July.God bless you.

My whole childhood was spent at the manor mission. I attended the sunday school right through to covenanters which was run by a lovely lady called Freda. I also attended the Brownies and Girl Guides. Many a happy day was spent there, I can remember the aunties coming down in the summer to hold summer clubs - it was wonderful . At the time of my attendence it was run by Mr Remmington and Mr Ives.
I left the manor mission when I was 16 yrs and now Iam 41yrs and have in the last few years come back to my faith and become a christian. And the fond memories flood back to me and I would like to thank you for showing me the light all those years ago and today Jesus christ still plays an important part in my life.
God bless you all
My name used to Susan Parkin but is now Susan Lockwood and Iam living in Sudbury in suffolk

I'd just like to say how much I enjoyed the 80th anniversary celebrations at the Mission recently. It was great to meet some of the members from many years ago and to see the exhibition about old Laindon. It was good to have a chance to attend the service there on the Sunday and meet Arthur Rowe and others. My aunt Margaret enjoyed the visit on the Saturday too so well done to all involved!

Came across your Web site by chance. At one time my family lived in Railway Approach (the prefabs) and I and my brother (Christopher) went to Sunday School at the church. I also went to the cubs ( they held their weekly meeting in the small room at the rear of the church. I believe also my brother was christened at Manor Mission. The person in charge was a Mr Tourle (I think thats how his name was spelt) I remember he had a grandson, I think David who was a cub friend of mine. We moved from the area around 1951/2

If anyone would like to write a report on camp or any other event at the mission email them to manormission@aol.com or put it in the competition box if it still exists at the back of the mission, or hand it to Dave Marshall.
